Wiping our Tears: a discussion of the Dakota 38+2 Memorial Ride

The Dakota State University (DSU) Native American Student Association in cooperation with the DSU committee for equity, diversity and inclusion honors the Dakota 38+2 memorial ride this year by hosting a discussion of the ride featuring Josette Peltier, a ride organizer, and Jennifer Aranda and Clarice Smoker, who created the connection between DSU and the ride in 2008.

More history:

On December 26, 1862 the US Government hung 38 Dakotas in Mankato, Minnesota.

Inspired by a vision, the Dakota 38+2 memorial ride is a healing ceremony that features a 330-mile horseback ride from Lower Brule, SD to Mankato, MN. The annual ride starts December 9th and ends December 26th. This year, 2020, the ride will rest due to the pandemic.
