VERMILLION, S.D. – The University of South Dakota is celebrating International Education Week Nov. 17 and 18 to promote programs that enhance awareness of the global environment and attract future leaders at home and from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences.
The events are hosted in collaboration with the Gallagher Center for Experiential Learning & Education Abroad, International Office, Department of Political Science and Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics.
Kim Albracht, Gallagher Center assistant director, said that the goal of International Education Week is to celebrate the different ways to become a stronger global community.
“Intentionally engaging in international education can have a huge benefit for people and our community by broadening perspectives and creating diverse connections,” Albracht said. “Such exchanges provide invaluable access to a range of cultures, languages and perspectives; all of this becomes a meaningful part of creating a genuine and robust international community.”

Wednesday, Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., Muenster University Center (MUC) Pit
Enjoy foods and conversations with faculty and students about international education opportunities.
Wednesday, Nov. 17 from 9 – 10 a.m., MUC Pit
Hear from two students currently studying away during a livestream panel.
Wednesday, Nov. 17 from noon – 1 p.m., MUC Pit
Engage with faculty from the Department of Political Science, who will present “A World in Flux: Slow Responses to New Challenges.” Panelists are Chair David Earnest, Coordinator of Undergraduate Study and Professor Eric Jepsen, and Director of International Studies and Associate Professor Tim Schorn. Director of the Government Research Bureau and Professor Shane Nordyke will moderate.
Thursday, Nov. 18 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., MUC Pit
Have fun with games and displays commemorating the fall of the wall during the Berlin Wall Fall Anniversary Bash.
Sunday, Nov. 21 from 5 – 8 p.m., MUC ballroom
The International Club will host a closing celebration on Sunday, Nov. 21 from 5-8 p.m. in the MUC ballroom. The International Night Gala will be an evening of food, music, activities and performances. Students can attend for free; others are $5.
