Taylor named vice provost for graduate education and extended studies

Dennis Hedge, South Dakota State University’s provost and vice president for academic affairs, has named Victor Taylor to the position of vice provost for graduate education and extended studies.

The position will work closely with faculty and academic leadership throughout the university, as well as with regional, national and global external partners, to strategically grow graduate and extended education across academic disciplines at SDSU. Taylor will begin his duties with SDSU in June.

“I am very excited to add Victor to our academic leadership team,” Hedge said. “His experience with graduate and professional extended education programming will be valuable to our university as we work to grow enrollment and expand the impact of South Dakota State University. I look forward to working with him.”

Taylor currently is a senior academic officer and director of the Division of Graduate and Professional Programs at York College of Pennsylvania. He has held his current position since 2017 when he was chair of the English and humanities department.

“SDSU is a great institution, and I am very much looking forward to my role as the next vice provost for graduate education and extended studies,” Taylor said. “As we strategically move forward in these areas, I also look forward to supporting the provost’s initiatives and partnering with my new colleagues across the university to build on the many successes and strengths in graduate education and extended studies.”

Taylor holds a doctorate in humanities and a Master of Arts in English literature, both from Syracuse University. His bachelor’s degree in philosophy and English was earned from Le Moyne College.

Taylor’s tenure at York started in 1998 as an assistant professor in English and humanities. He earned the title of professor in 2010 and became department chair for the Department of English and Humanities in 2013. He also served as the founding director of the YCP Institute for Civics Arts and Humanities at York, as well as a special project facilitator for the president’s office and director of the Presidential Research Fellows Honors Program.
