New faculty Robinson to present flute recital

The School of Performing Arts invites the community to a recital featuring Elizabeth Robinson, assistant professor of flute at South Dakota State University.
The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center’s Founders Recital Hall and features both classics of the flute repertoire as well as a number of new works.
The program includes “the Beethoven of flute,” composer Friedrich Kuhlau, and a song cycle by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Jennifer Higdon. Audience members will hear the world premiere of Cherise Leiter’s “a voice silenced … a voice sings.” The work takes its inspiration from musical icons Hildegard of Bingen and Ella Fitzgerald. Also on the program is Shulamit Ran’s “The Flight of the Brave Chicken” and a Mongolian folk music-influenced sonata by Chinese composer Jin Ta.
Robinson will be joined on the stage by School of Performing Arts faculty members Anna DeGraff, mezzo-soprano; Xuan Kang, piano; and Michael Walsh, clarinet.
