Name Released In Charles Mix County Fatal Crash
What:    Vehicle-Pedestrian
Where:  South Dakota Highway 46, mile marker 281
              Five miles east of Marty, S.D.
When:   4:49 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023
Pedestrian: Richard Hare, Jr., 42, Marty, S.D., Fatal Injuries
Driver: Under Investigation
Vehicle: Under Investigation
MARTY, S.D. –  A 42-year-old Marty, S.D., man has been identified as the person died early Sunday morning in a vehicle-pedestrian east of Marty.
Preliminary crash information indicates that Richard Hare, Jr., was walking east on South Dakota Highway 46 when he was struck by an unknown vehicle in the roadway. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and vehicle involved have not yet been identified.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
