Jones County Fatal Crash
What: One-Vehicle Crash
Where: Intersection of Cemetery Road and South Dakota Highway 248
Within the city limits of Draper, S.D.
When: 3:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 4, 2022
Driver: Male, 51, Fatal Injuries
Vehicle: 2020 GMC Equinox
DRAPER, S.D. – One man died early Friday morning in a one-vehicle crash in Draper.
The name of the person involved is not being released pending notification of family members.
Preliminary crash information indicates a 2020 GMC Equinox was northbound on 279th Avenue when it went through the intersection of South Dakota Highway 248 and Cemetery Road. The vehicle hit a stop sign, went off the roadway and struck a grain bin loaded with corn. Both the vehicle and corn started on fire.
The 51-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Seat belt use is under investigation.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
