Cody Christensen, an associate professor in the South Dakota State University aviation program, has been elected to the board of trustees for the University Aviation Association.
The associationis the premier voice for collegiate aviation with more than 1,200 members from some 220 colleges and universities in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Europe and Asia.
Christensen, who has been at SDSU since 2009, is the first person from SDSU to serve on the 14-member board of trustees.
He was nominated by associationPresident Chaminda Prelis, of Middle Tennessee State, and elected from a field of four candidates.
“Having somebody (from SDSU) serve at the national level gives a voice to the more rural programs,” Christensen, an associate professor, said. “Even though we’re a growing program, we’re still one of the smaller programs in collegiate education.” There are 189 majors in the four-year program based out of the Brookings Regional Airport.
His goals as a board member include increasing membership in the University Aviation Association and increasing its transparency.
